Course Description

This is two-day introduction workshop focus on fundamental concepts and techniques for control system design and analysis. The aim is to present an overview of several important design techniques for linear control systems, varying from classical to “post-modern.” The emphasis is on ideas, methodology, results, and strong and weak points, not on proof techniques.

Pre-requisites:
Candidate must have experience with basic computer operations and preferably attended our "Learner's Guide to MATLAB".

Course Outline:

Day 1

  1. Modeling of linear time invariant (LTI) dynamic systems
  • Obtaining a transfer function
  • Obtaining a block diagram
  • Obtaining a state-space representation
  1. Matlab basics in Control design
  • Defining models in Matlab
  • Drawing a block diagram in Simulink
  • Writing a function in Matlab
  1. Analysis of dynamic systems
  • Poles and zeros of dynamic systems
  • Stability of dynamic systems
  • Effect of poles and zeros on the performance of dynamic systems
  • Root locus and frequency response
  • Using the LTI viewer to analyze dynamic systems

Day 2

  1. Controller design of dynamic systems
  • The use of root locus and frequency response in controller design
  • Using SISOTOOL in controller design
  • Using the Control & Estimation Tools Manager to linearize and design controller for a nonlinear system
  1. Design examples
  • The design examples will be based on Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

Who Should Attend
Engineer, researchers, scientists, and managers from the academic, manufacturing, government and defense sectors who want to use or plan to use Control System design, and to learn the fundamental knowledge in Control System.

Course Benefits

Upon the completion of the course, the participants should be able to gain knowledge on the fundamental techniques for analyzing, designing and modeling controller for a nonlinear system.
